Abstract

The research is focused on analyzing the gender aspects of homelessness in Russia, with special attention to the differences in the causes of homelessness, survival strategies and vulnerability of men and women. This study seeks to highlight the specific problems faced by homeless women and men, as well as to offer a conceptual framework for understanding gender capital as a key element in their adaptation strategies. The study is based on empirical data collected between 2018 and 2021. The concept of gender capital proposed in the study helps to understand how social, cultural and economic resources are utilized by men and women in their daily struggle for survival. This concept reveals how gender norms and expectations influence the experience of homelessness and adaptation strategies. Gender capital includes skills, knowledge, and social networks that can both facilitate survival and limit opportunities to exit homelessness.
