In Memory of the Leningrad School of Sociology of Mass Culture

Abstract

The article describes the research programs of the Soviet sociology of culture, presents the insights of the working group “Sociology and Theater”, as well as longterm monitoring of the cultural life of St. Petersburg, implemented by M. E. Ille. Despite the fact that the confrontation between high and mass cultures ceases to be relevant in scientific discourse, many observations of Soviet culture sociology deserve attention.
