Abstract

This study aims to understand the social consequences of the drug crisis in the town of Kimry during the late 1990s and early 2000s through the lens of trauma theory. The work examines the two concepts of collective and cultural trauma, analyzing how a small, traumatized community perceives its past: such an angle is used to interpret the collected field data. The study identified a specific common narrative about this period in the residents’ stories, compiling a description of key actors and popular plots within this narrative. The findings reveal signs of collective trauma among Kimry’s residents, resulting from the social crisis and shared experiences of negative social events.
