Information For Authors
The journal provides a platform for scientific discussion. In line with the traditions of Shaninka, we advocate for a free and equal exchange of opinions in the academic community, equally providing an opportunity for established scientists and novice researchers to speak out. The main criterion for selecting articles for publication is the originality and high quality of the academic text. Interested in submitting to this journal? We recommend that you review the About the Journal page for the journal's section policies, as well as the Author Guidelines. Authors need to submit their articles to e-mail jrsre@universitas.ru
Reviewing
All manuscripts submitted to the editorial office of the journal "Russia’s Directions" are subject to an initial examination by the responsible editor. If the article's manuscript conforms to the journal's profile and the author complies with the requirements for manuscripts, the article is subject to a double-blind review procedure. Information about reviewers is confidential. The decision to publish an article is made by the editorial board based on reviews from reviewers.
Accepted articles are edited and finalized by the author if there are comments from the reviewer and/or the editor.
The review of manuscripts is carried out by members of the editorial board, as well as invited reviewers — leading experts in the relevant field of sociology, history and philosophy of Russia and other countries. The review period is 2-4 weeks, and may be extended at the request of the reviewer. Each manuscript is sent to 2 reviewers. Before handing over the manuscript to the reviewer, the manuscripts are anonymized.
The reviewer has the right to refuse to review if there is an obvious conflict of interest. Based on the results of the review, the reviewer makes reasonable recommendations about the manuscript:
- acceptnochanges;
- acceptsubject to minorchanges(no re-reviewrequired);
- acceptsubject to majorchanges(re-reviewrequired);
- reject.
If the review contains recommendations for changing the manuscript, the editorial board sends the review to the author with a proposal to take these recommendations into account and prepare a new version of the manuscript. The author has the right to refute the reviewer's recommendations in part or in full. The revision of the manuscript should not take more than two months from the date of sending an e-mail about the change of the manuscript to the author.
If the author refuses to change the manuscript, they must notify the editorial board in writing or orally of the refusal to publish the manuscript. If the author does not send the revised version after 3 months from the date of sending the review, the editorial board removes the manuscript from the register even if the author refuses to finalize it. In this case, the corresponding notification is sent to the author.
The decision to refuse publication of the manuscript is made in accordance with the recommendations of the reviewers at the meeting of the editorial board. An article not recommended for publication by the decision of the editorial board is not accepted for reconsideration. A notice of refusal to publish is sent to the author by e-mail.
If the author and the reviewer have unresolved contradictions regarding the manuscript, the editorial board has the right to send the manuscript for additional review. In conflict situations, the decision is made by the editor-in-chief at a meeting of the editorial board.
After the editorial board of the journal decides on the publication of the manuscript, the editorial board informs the author about it, specifying the date of publication.
The presence of a positive review is not a sufficient reason for publication. The final decision on publication is made by the editorial board. In case of conflict, the decision is made by the editor-in-chief. The original reviews of the manuscripts are kept for 5 years.

Research Data Exchange Policy
We welcome the authors to provide access to the data obtained during the research, which substantiate the content of their publications, but this is not mandatory. Whether or not the authors provide access to research data does not affect the decision to publish.
Definition of research data
Research data are factual materials used to obtain research results and recorded in digital or other form on any medium. These include tabular data, code, images, audio and video files, documents, and maps. The data can be obtained directly by the authors ("primary data") or come from other sources analyzed by the authors ("secondary data"). The data can be either processed or unprocessed. This policy applies to research data that may be required to confirm the reliability of the research results presented in the articles published by the journal "Russia’s Directions".
Defining exceptions
This policy does not apply to research data that is not required to confirm the reliability of the results presented in the published articles.
The data, information about which is not subject to disclosure, can be placed in repositories of research data with limited access, can be previously anonymized. It is also possible to make publicly available only the metadata of research data or a description of how to access them on request.
Data storage
The preferred way to share data is to use data repositories. To select a repository, we recommend using the list of repositories on the website: https://repositoryfinder.datacite.org.

Upon re-publication of the materials, the author undertakes to provide a link to the material first published in the journal "Russia’s Directions". The accepted article is publicly available.
Contributions from authors and non-authors
People who have contributed to the work but do not meet the criteria of authorship, for example: those who supported the research, performed the role of mentor, assisted in data collection, coordinated the research, etc. can be mentioned in the "Acknowledgements" section.
To correctly determine the contribution, the authors of the journal can use one of the schemes recommended by COPE:

Policy of using generative AI
Generative artificial intelligence and AI-based technologies can be used when writing an article to improve the language of the manuscript, including grammar, syntax, and spelling. In this case, no statements about the use of AI are required from the authors.
In all other cases, the authors must declare the use of generative AI technologies. The application may be as follows: "During the preparation of this article, we used [the name of the tool/service] for the reason [specify the reason]. We then reviewed and edited the content as necessary and take full responsibility for the content of the published article." This means that the use of AI technologies must be accompanied by human supervision and control. Authors are required to carefully check and edit the text, as the generated text can often be erroneous, incomplete, or biased. The authors are fully responsible for the content of their work.
If an article contains images created or modified using generative and or AI-supported tools, the authors should report this by providing a detailed description of how these tools were used. The authors must confirm that they have obtained all necessary rights to use such materials.
The authorship of a manuscript can belong only to a person. AI and AI-enabled technologies cannot be listed as author(s) or co-author(s) due to their inability to meet the criteria of authorship: They cannot take responsibility for the work, consent to publication, manage copyrights, or resolve issues related to conflicts of interest.
Significant errors in published works
If the author finds a significant error in the published work, he must immediately notify the editor-in-chief of the journal about it and take the necessary measures to publish a refutation or correction of the article. If the editor-in-chief finds out from a third party that the published work contains a significant error, he will notify the author about it. The author is obliged to prepare a refutation or correction of the article, or to provide the editor-in-chief with proof of the correctness of the published work.
